We are having great fun in reception and year 1 this half term.
We are learning lots of new facts and we love playing in our different areas both in the classroom and outside.
As a whole class in Literacy we have been using talk for writing to learn the story 'Pirates in the Supermarket'. Every day we have practiced acting out the story using the story map. We then received a letter from Polly the parrot which we needed to respond too. We know all about letters and exclamation marks now.
We have moved onto stage 2 of our phonics scheme. We are getting better at our sounds every day and we are much better are recognising, reading and writing these in other lessons not just phonics. We learn phonics daily through interactive and fun games. We read our books daily and do a variety of activities to improve both our writing and handwriting.
In Maths in reception we have been focusing on our numbers 1-20 through lots of fun activities and games. We then moved onto looking at practical addition and subtraction. I think we have some future mathematicians in our class!
In year 1 we have done lots of different learning in maths through White Rose Maths including: position and direction; place value to 100 and fractions. This has included cooking pizzas and using programming mice which has been really exciting.
On an afternoon Year 1 join the Year 2's in Mrs Watson's class. In reception, therefore, we are studying two different topics this half-term: Pirates and Transport. This allows us all to explore the fantasy world of pirates and the interesting facts about transport through whole class lessons and both adult and child-led provision. We have created lots of lovely pieces of work which have been displayed in our classroom.
As a class we love playing in the different areas of the classroom. This half term we have had a real life pirate ship, the sand pit, water tray in full swing plus lots of great educational activities in the maths, literacy, reading, creative and finger gym areas.
