YEAR 5 & 6

This half term our class topic is:

World War II

We will be looking at the historic events that lead to the outbreak of the Second World War; people of historical importance during this time such as Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler and Anne Frank and the various battles during the war, as well as how people lived and survived in Britain during this time.

The book we will be studying in Literacy this term will be Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. This book links with our topic and is set during World War 2. It follows the story of a young boy who is evacuated into the country during the outbreak of the war to live with Mister Tom, an elderly recluse.

We are looking forward to starting our swimming lessons this term, which will run for 10 weeks in total. We are also looking forward to our play leader training with Ellie, who will come into school for 6 weeks to help train and plan activities with our year 5 and 6 children. They will then be able to lead these activities for the younger children in the school to take part in.

As harvest time is coming up, our preparation for our harvest festival will begin. We will be focusing on the Bishops harvest appeal and our class will be researching and writing all about this to share during our festival performance.
