At HCA we aim to create a happy, stimulating environment where all children are provided with opportunities, to plan, participate in and evaluate their physical education. We provide a diverse range of sporting opportunities, which are fun and high quality in the hope of developing a life-long love of sport and physical activity for our children.
We enjoy healthy competition and take part in a number of inter school cluster events promoting participation at all levels and across all year groups. This year we have successfully achieved the School Games Gold Award for our commitment to the development of competition across our school and into the community.
HCA works closely with local schools; Allerdale Sports Partnership, Active Cumbria, Abernathy Barcaple, Carlisle United Community Sports Trust and the Nelson Thomlinson School's Cluster to develop and enhance PE and sport within the curriculum and through extra curricula activities.
Carlisle United deliver sports provision across the week and cover a number of key skills, which are outlined in the planning below. We also take part in a number of Cluster competitions to promote a wider participation in teams games and to celebrate healthy competition.
All children take part in ten sessions of swimming every year at HCA. Not only do they children love this activity be we feel it is extremely important that they have an opportunity to develop this life skill. We use a small private pool for our youngest children and the local baths for our older children.
Health and well-being week

This event aims to support well-being, promote positive relationships, build resilience and continues our tradition of trying new and exciting sporting activities both in and outside of school.
This year our activities included:
