    What do governing bodies do?

Governing boards provide strategic direction and oversight in schools. They look at long-term strategy and school improvement.

    Boards:

    • Set the vision, ethos, and strategic direction
    • Ensure the views of the wider school community are heard
    • Hold leaders to account for pupils' educational outcomes and school experiences.
    • Oversee financial performance

    Who are governors?

Governing boards are made up of volunteers who bring a range of experiences, skills and objective insights that enable your school to keep improving.

Governors are tasked with determining the mission, values and long-term vision for the school, holding leaders to account and ensuring the best educational outcomes for pupils. Governors are there to provide oversight and accountability – they don’t get involved in the day-to-day management of the school.

There are over 230,000 governors and trustees volunteering across the country, making them one of the country’s biggest volunteer force.

We currently have two vacancies on our governing board.  Could you be a governor at our school?

There are no specific qualifications or requirements for the role – every governing board needs a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience. You don't need to be a parent or to have a background in education.

If you would like any more information, or are interested in supporting the school and becoming a governor, then please contact the school or one of the people above.
